19th century French Boulle inlaid card table
19th century French Boulle inlaid, ormolu-mounted card table, serpentine in shape.
This period game table in blackened wood and brass in the style of the marquetry known as Boulle.
One notices an exceptional quality of cabinetwork and especially when the work to front is as much work and effort to the decoration to the back .
A rich ormolu decoration on the front and back sides.
Gaming console tables like this are becoming hard to find of this quality.
The Game table is in the manner of Charles Boulle, supported by curved legs, the band under the top is shaped; the top can be opened like a book, concealing a compartment underneath, while the interior has a green cloth insert which has minor wear .
The cabinet is entirely inlaid in the Boulle style, with gilded cherubs , phytomorphic volutes on a background of precious material; enriched with bronze mask-like shoes and applications.
Late 19th century France.
